Our team developed a Web 3.0-enabled Metaverse Retail Store with Blockchain integration for one of our clients in the retail industry. A futuristic project that used cutting-edge technologies and aimed to bring an immersive, engaging shopping experience to consumers on par with a real-world retail store, which is missing in the 2-D environment of Web 2.0.
Thus, a global user base could visit the virtual store with their friends and families in their avatars and explore the range of products available. In the metaverse, they can actually “use” or “try on” the product and buy it right away.
We developed a highly functional metaverse retail store on the Unreal Engine where users can enter in their avatars. They can explore different categories of products placed in their dedicated segments, such as electronics, gift items, fashion wear, baby products, personal care, kitchenware, and much more.
We added the product description, presentation, and tryon functionality in the virtual store. Accordingly, users’ avatars can pick up the product, and its description will be available to them on their screens.
Plus, if the product is wearable like shoes, sunglasses, etc., the avatar can also wear it for users to get a better idea of the product. Such additional information goes a long way toward building a positive brand image.
Once they like the product, they can buy it right in the metaverse, and it will be delivered to their real-world address. Interestingly, the store accepted crypto-currencies as our client wanted to diversify their revenue stream, and for this, we integrated Metamask digital wallet.
Further, we employed Pixel Streaming to make the Unreal Engine application accessible on all web browsers, whether desktop or mobile. This required hosting it on an AWS server with high-grade Tesla GPU drivers for seamless execution.
Resulting in the rapid loading of high-quality graphics even on devices with lower configurations.
On the socialization aspect, users could invite their friends and family members to the metaverse and indulge in a shopping spree in the virtual space. The metaverse store had a dedicated recreational area where users could gather to chat and emote dance.
Under the project, we incorporated a wide range of products across different categories. This required dealing with an enormous amount of data for all these products to develop animation and interaction as per the product. For this, we created a dedicated ‘Data Table’ on the Unreal engine for the convenient execution of this complex task.
We integrated a blockchain-based live webpage with a transparent theme to display product descriptions and other related information about available inventory in the store. This was a challenge as, at the time, the technology was fairly new and it had to be a live webpage that was fetched from the website. We also integrated a website redirection so that users could also visit the website directly if they preferred.
At Queppelin, we believe in perfection, which demands going the extra mile and turning each and every stone along the way. For lifelike animation, we employed several out-of-the-book techniques like Inverse Kinematics and 16-directional animation that added realism to our avatars and their interactions with the environment.
We ran extensive industry research and studied various real-world retail stores for their interiors, segmentation, inventory classification and placement, etc to develop an ultra-realistic ambience.
The whole process was quite exhaustive and required our team to create hundreds of 3D models of the inventory the client wanted to showcase and sell in the Retail Store.
We went one step further to add different animations for various avatar-product interactions.
The experience drew a huge positive response from the audience. It caught the attention of the Retail industry for being a unique endeavor that set our client apart from its competitors.
Hundreds and thousands of consumers entered the retail store and appreciated the client for a unique shopping experience. The experience soared our client’s popularity to a global level while opening additional and novel avenues of income.
More than 55% of users that visited the store were above the age of 25.
The client generated 9 times the return on investment (ROI) made initially to develop the metaverse.
