Android Auto is a smartphone projection standard developed by Google to allow mobile devices running on the Android OS (Version 5.0 lollipop or later) to be operated in automobiles through the dashboards head-unit. It offers drivers control over GPS mapping/navigation, music playback, SMS and web search. Although both touchscreen and button-controlled head unit displays are supported, it emphasizes on hands-free operation through voice command to ensure safe driving. The compatible Apps include Google Maps, Google Play Music, Spotify, Radioplayer and TuneIn.
Android Auto was basically designed keeping road safety in mind. It has a simple and intuitive interface, integrated steering wheel controls, and voice actions. In other words it is designed to minimize distractions so that you can concentrate on your driving.
Android Auto automatically brings you information and organizes it into simple cards that pop-up when you need them the most.
To use it, you need an Android Auto compatible vehicle and an Android phone running on 5.0 lollipop or higher. When you connect the phone to the compatible vehicle or radio, Android Auto displays applications on the vehicle’s screen.
